Class 01 - 10/02/20

In this class we went over the user interface and the basics of animating in After Effects.

The assignment was to turn in a video showing/demonstrating the use of keyframes in animating objects.

Class 02 - 10/09/20

In this class we went over importing and animating assets from Illustrator and Photoshop. We also covered exporting a video with an alpha channel.

The assignment was to turn in a cohesive graphics package. All four animation had to be exported with alpha channel (transparency)

  • - Animated logo of a fictitious company

  • - Animated lower third that will end on the left

  • - Animated lower third that will end on the right

  • - Animation transition

Class 03 - 10/16/20

In this class we went over creating and animating masks. We also went over some basics on the effects panel.

The assignment was to composite text, graphics, or both into a video using masks. Make it feel like the text/graphic is part of the scene. Use free stock footage or shoot your own. Keep it between 5 and 15 seconds. Export as a .mp4 and upload it.

Class 04 - 10/23/20

In this class, we went over tracking and green screen. Plus a review on masks and some talk about skewing text. Also, my computer crashed! :)

The assignment was to composite text, graphics, or both into a video using TRACKING. Make it feel like the text/graphic is attached to something in the scene. Use free stock footage or shoot your own. Keep it between 5 and 15 seconds. Export as a .mp4 and upload it.

More tracking. This time with a car!

Class 05 - 10/30/20

In this class, we talked about a real-world example of a motion graphics package. We dove deeper into green screen and garbage masks. And, went over some more questions regarding tracking.

The assignment is to create a video with at least:

1 - logo

1 - lower third

1 - call to action

1 - green screen, masking, or tracking shot (one of these not all three)

Use as many shots as you need to create your video. You don't need audio, but it may help. I'm looking for the skills that were taught in class to be applied to this project. Be creative, have fun and let me know if you have any questions.
